Colour, design, antiques, contemporary elements, comfort and worldly influences are key values that frequently feature in my designs. I have a particular passion for historic properties and period buildings, but my designs are equally at home in modern houses, apartments and other types of residences, such as houseboats and inland barges.

Turning a House into Your Home
My work is about creating and bringing to life plans for your home, both inside and out. This can involve a complete project or just one particular element, such as choosing colours for your interior, creating a lighting plan, selecting exterior cladding, purchasing a new kitchen or furniture, or simply improving the existing layout.
I love harmony and create a plan that suits the house, the people who live in it and its surroundings. My challenge is to find the right harmony and balance between what is already there, the history and original details of the property, and new designs.
Most importantly, it should become your home – a place that makes you happy.
When couples choose the colours and materials for their home together without outside advice, they often end up making compromises. I do not believe in compromises. There is always something better that you can both love.
That is an important motivation for me: creating a concept that genuinely suits you. A concept that both you and your partner feel happy with makes all the individual decisions much easier, because you know what you are looking for and there is a clear connection between the different elements of the interior. And that brings a sense of calm.
Of course, I can also help you bring the concept to life. I have excellent relationships with reliable suppliers for flooring, kitchens, furniture, window treatments, painting and lighting.
This saves you a great deal of time, searching and the stress of making endless choices, while often helping to achieve results more quickly.
With a good design and the right professionals, renovating your home can actually be enjoyable!
ABOUT me
All my life, I have been fascinated by colour, natural materials, atmosphere and the design of houses and apartments. Bringing out the very best in a home – finding the perfect balance between the house, the people who live in it and its surroundings – is what I love to do.
Perhaps that is not so surprising, considering that one of my grandfathers ran a furniture company that was innovative for its time, while my other grandfather was a building contractor who built 1930s houses in the last century.
I see warm, beautiful colours everywhere: in flowers, stones, pearls, skies, trees, sunsets and art. They make me happy. I can be cycling somewhere and suddenly stop to photograph the autumn colours of the trees. In a museum, I can become completely fascinated by the colour composition of a painting.
All these impressions of colour that I absorb every day – and the feeling they give me – are something I intuitively draw upon when creating colour schemes and interior concepts.
The Art of Enjoying Life
I am inspired by nature, art and history. I believe in the art of enjoying life and making the most of it.
I have visited many places around the world where extraordinary colours and beautiful light are part of everyday life, including the Caribbean, South Africa and Indonesia. These are places where the sun shines abundantly and life is filled with colour.
Our Dutch climate and the changing light throughout the seasons call for their own palette: more understated and sophisticated. A little different from the exuberant, joyful colours of the Caribbean, South Africa and Indonesia.
But even more important to me than colour is harmony. The flow of a home, the way you move through it and the light that works for you. When everything feels as though it has always been that way, you know it is right – and timeless.

I am someone who is full of ideas, with a distinctive and timeless sense of style. Ideas about how to renovate your home and improve its atmosphere. Ideas about how to create something contemporary, clean, classic, stylish and harmonious.
For me, it is about finding the perfect balance between old and new.
I strongly believe that a beautiful and comfortable home, where you can truly feel at ease, contributes to your happiness and well-being.
The Dutch Landscape as a Source of Inspiration
The Netherlands is beautiful. It may be a small country, but it offers an extraordinary variety of landscapes: lakes, rivers, beaches, dunes, the Veluwe, beautiful historic city centres and small villages.
Over the past few years, friends from abroad have regularly come to visit, giving me the opportunity to show them our country. Through their eyes, I have rediscovered my appreciation for the Dutch landscape and its many historic buildings and monuments.
The Dutch landscape is an important source of inspiration for my choices of colours and materials.
I love our history, while also being critical of the less admirable aspects of our colonial past in South Africa, Indonesia and the Caribbean. But the colours – and the extraordinary light – of these countries remain very dear to me.
I am particularly fond of Farrow & Ball and Little Greene.
